Since we won’t have a newsletter/messenger for the next couple of weeks, consider this a challenge for the New Year. I just finished the book “Chase the Lion” by Mark Batterson. In the book is a description of the ancient warrior, Benaiah, (2 Samuel 23). Benaiah was one of the men who fought for David when he was being chased by Saul before David became King of Israel. The Bible says that one day Benaiah chased a lion into a pit on a snowy day—and then killed it! Years later Benaiah landed his “dream job” when he became King David’s bodyguard. Mark Batterson expands on the mindset and courage of anyone who would chase a lion into a pit (without a gun). He challenges his readers to be bold and courageous in following God, to dream big, to quit running away from fears, to chase the lion, and change the world!
I was impressed by what the author calls “The Lion Chaser’s Manifesto.” Here is a portion of it. I hope it will challenge you today and throughout 2019 to be bold for Christ!
Quit living as if the purpose of life is to arrive safely at death. Run to the roar. Set God-sized goals. Pursue God-given passions. Go after a dream that is destined to fail without divine intervention. Stop pointing out problems. Become part of the solution. Start creating the future. Burn sinful bridges. Blaze new trails. Live for the applause of nail-scarred hands. Don’t let what’s wrong with you keep you from worshiping what’s right with God. Dare to fail. Dare to be different. Quit holding back. Chase the lion!
