When we first moved to Midwest City, Dana and I lived in the FBC Mission House across the street from the church for a few months. One of the things we noticed walking back and forth across the street to the church was the dark stains on some of the concrete around the church’s east entryway. Last weekend the church had rented a lift to replace light bulbs in the worship center, and I was able to use it outside and power-wash the concrete in several places and see the stains disappear.
Seeing the before and after results of power-washing made me think of a song. By the way, being reminded of songs is an occupational hazard/blessing for music ministers. There’s a verse in the middle of the hymn “Grace Greater than Our Sin” that says,
Dark is the stain that we cannot hide,
What can avail to wash it away?
Look! There is flowing a crimson tide;
Whiter than snow you may be today.
As believers in Christ, we can rejoice to know the stain of our sin is not only power-washed away by the blood of Christ, but the stain is gone forever! Hallelujah for the cross and the grace of God.
