Last Sunday’s choir anthem has been in my head and in my heart all week. The chorus to the anthem “I Got Saved” says:
I’m undone by the mercy of Jesus.
I’m undone by the goodness of the Lord.
I’m restored and made right.
He got ahold of my life.
I’ve got Jesus, how could I want more?
Truth be told, we don’t fully understand how it happened, but we know that when Jesus forgave us and saved us by his grace, we were undone! The old self was undone, and a new person was “born again” into existence. The overwhelming, vibrant, fresh presence of the Holy Spirit replaced the lost, sinful, dead spirit of a person with no hope.
Let this song be a reminder of the sufficiency of Christ. When it comes to eternity we understand that Jesus is enough. However, we occasionally have a problem with the here and now. We think that we need more money, more security, more fun, more fulfillment, more purpose, more…more…more. If you’ve got Jesus, trust Him to meet your needs and revise your wants. Jesus said, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” Matthew 6:33 (NLT).
