Just last week, as I was checking out at Harbor Freight, I was surprised when the cashier started yelling. She saw two men quickly exiting the store with a shopping cart containing several items. She yelled, “Hey you have to pay for that!” Immediately, a manager appeared and started chasing the two thieves out the front door. After a few minutes, the manager came back in disgust. The thieves apparently were faster than the manager and got away. A few minutes later someone from the parking lot walked inside with the license plate of the “getaway” vehicle. The most ironic thing about the whole thing is that they were stealing a security system!
Lots of things catch us by surprise, but it seems that we are most surprised when either tragedy strikes close by or something fabulous happens. You’ve all heard people on the TV news exclaim, “I never expected that storm (or murder, or robbery, or plane crash, etc.) in my neighborhood!” One of these days it will be just the opposite. It will be something fabulous – the unexpected return of Jesus! Even though the Bible tells us to expect it, very few of us really got out of bed this morning saying, “I think Jesus will come back today.” However, as believers we are encouraged to “keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come…be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect Him.” Matthew 24:42 & 44
What if it were today? Are you ready? Do you know Him? Are you walking with Jesus? Who do you need to share Jesus with today?
