I was nine years old. It was the Sunday morning following a week of Vacation Bible School. God had been speaking to my heart for several weeks – first in Sunday School, then in worship, and then every day in VBS. The truth of the gospel was filling my mind and my heart. I knew I was a sinner in need of a Savior, but I was fighting with God and kept talking myself out of making a decision for Christ. I knew that Jesus had died for me on the cross, paid the price for my sin, and rose from the grave. I knew the Holy Spirit was at work drawing me to trust in Jesus as Savior. Finally, that Sunday morning after VBS, I surrendered to God and responded to His call to be saved. The second I started walking down the aisle, Jesus saved me and I became a child of God. He forgave me of my sin, and I was born again – into the family of God.
“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name – children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God” John 1:12.
Vacation Bible School helps children learn the truth about becoming a child of God through faith in Jesus. Please pray for us next week as we share this truth of the gospel with children. Pray for a clear message and a clear understanding. Most of all, pray for the Holy Spirit to stir hearts toward God as children come face to face with sin, repentance, grace, forgiveness, and the good news that Jesus saves!
