Church Family,

On Tuesday, July 28, 2020, the Midwest City Council passed emergency public safety Ordinance No. 2020-3414 (COVID-19 Safety Code) requiring every person in Midwest City to wear a face covering when entering and while inside any indoor place open to the public. This would include our church facilities. According to the Midwest City’s website this ordinance means, “every person in the City must wear a face covering over the nose and mouth worn consistent with CDC guidelines when inside a commercial entity or other building, structure or space open to the public, wherever it is not feasible to maintain six feet of social distancing from another person not in the same household.” We have every intention of complying with this new ordinance moving forward. This means that in your Sunday school classes and as you are entering and exiting the building, please wear a mask.  In the worship center, if you are unable to stay six feet from someone not in your household, please wear a mask. Our worship center is quite large when the balcony is utilized and if you would like to spread out so you do not have to wear a mask during our worship service, you are welcome to. There are exceptions to this ordinance for those under ten years of age, those who are unable to wear masks for medical or mental health conditions or developmental disabilities, those who are consuming food or drink, and those giving a speech to an audience.  Disposable masks will be available throughout our facilities for any who forget to bring their own.

I know that this will be an inconvenience for many of you but out of love for neighbor and a desire for peace in the body of Christ, I am asking our church to gladly comply with this ordinance while on our campus.  Paul tells in Romans 14:19, “So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding.” In our culture that is so polarized on issues such as these, let us be a people who are more interested in building each other up than we are winning an argument. We love Midwest City and intend to serve her faithfully until Jesus returns. Let us not let facemasks be a stumbling block to the gospel for those we seek to serve. I love you church and look forward to worshiping our risen savior with you on Sunday, mask and all.

In Christ,
Pastor Trey
